Over the period of time the semiconductor design and verification services area has evolved. Most of the design and verification companies have established their setups in the various domains . These companies are always short of the skilled resources in the various domains ( FPGA, ASIC, SOC). Most of the experienced technical experts are busy due to their working schedule and always there is lack of the trainers and instructors in the ASIC/FPGA domain.
Over past 15 years in the VLSI industry, I have observed that, many technical experts and professionals are not willing to join the training vertical due to many reasons. In the present scenario with technical expertise and experience, we can cater the resource requirements in the semiconductor design and training area. Over past few years, I have spoken to many executives and I have understood their view to improve the semiconductor training.
Following are key points to think upon:
- Most of them think that semiconductor training is business and they need to charge lac of rupees to engineers. The reason being, they need to run their lavish infrastructure by charging the lac of rupees to the engineers. Same outdated syllabus they teach and they claim that, that is what semiconductor industry needs? Is it that, Indian Semiconductor Industry is outdated? Answer is "no" there is lack of innovation by most of the educationalists. Most of the educationalists are not interested in upgrading the syllabus as it costs money and even it needs experts from industries.
- Finally most of the engineers are jobless after paying lac of rupees for VLSI education. Still most of the educationalists claims that, they give 100% placement results.
- According to most of the educationalists, the cost of the ASIC/FPGA EDA tool is very high so they charge lac of rupees to the students. But the reality is different with industry and academic association the problem to avail the latest EDA tool can be sorted out.
- So why to pay money for training in semiconductor area? There are many innovative options available to improve the VLSI design skills.
- According to Respected Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, training is noble cause and everybody should think that, we can develop the nation if we support the juniors, collage undergraduates by imparting the practical experience. Why to charge money from the students? Isn't it liability on their parents?
- Most of the educationalists claims that, they are giving back to society. After charging lac of rupees anybody can say that " I am here to give back to society". Is it reality?
- The culture of IIT and IISc is different as there is constant upgradation of the syllabus and these premier organizations are well equipped with the facilities and always imparts what industry needs!
In such scenario, I have taken initiative and spoken to few like minded experts to impart the semiconductor education with Rs.1 ( No hidden charges), the course duration is 6 months including project work. In coming few weeks, I will launch website for Semiconductor education in one rupee! It is reality and it is viable if experts or instructors will not charge the money for the semiconductor training services. With group of few experts and technologist, I am in the process of creating the world class organization to impart the free of cost training in the FPGA/ASIC/SOC design and Verification areas.
The first training batch of 30 students from all over India will be launched at Pune during first week of October 2015. To make the attempt successful please share your ideas and suggestions. If Captain Gopinath can create the low cost airlines then why we should limit ourselves? Beginning of each and everything is very small but if efforts are in the right direction then the most of the educationalists will stop charging the lac of rupees to the students and even they will upgrade their outdated syllabus. This will benefit to the students and even to the Indian Semiconductor industry.
One rupee will be considered as the gurudakshina from the engineer. The real Gurukul way teaching can make all of us united to think for the benefit of others and indirectly we can contribute to build our nation. The true educational shift, innovation and technology shift will really begin with the innovative way thinking to impart the high technology training. So the benefit to the more professionals and the true eternal happiness to the trainers.
In both the ways there is benefit to society and humanity. So to make in India let us take initiative by imparting zero cost semiconductor training to undergraduates and graduate engineers. This is really giving back to society and direct and indirect help to make our nation equipped with the brain collateral.
Dear Vaibbhav,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I would like to congratulate you for this revolutionary idea and for the support that you received from all over country. I am post graduate final year student in VLSI System Design. I am interested to join this training program and would like to know what is the procedure to get an admission.
